Specialties

PADI Digital Underwater Photographer

Bring home much more than a memory.

A well-taken underwater photo lets you relive the dive and share with others a world that few people ever really see. Whether you use a compact or an SLR, this specialty gives you the foundations to shoot images you can be proud of from day one.

What you'll learn

How to choose the camera system that suits you, the principles of composition for balanced images, and the PADI SEA method (Shoot, Examine, Adjust) to shoot, review and improve your photos dive after dive. Plus an introduction to the basics of underwater video.

Course structure

  • Theory (eLearning): choosing equipment, composition and the SEA method, studied online whenever you like.
  • 2 open water dives (the first can also be done in a pool or confined water) to apply the techniques in the field.
  • Basic editing included: a hands-on module on downloading, organising and retouching your photos, so you go home with shots ready to share.

The course is usually completed in 1 day.

Prerequisites

PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or equivalent (also available for snorkellers, without dives). A digital underwater camera is required.

What's next

The ability to document your dives with quality images. This certification also counts as an Adventure Dive for Advanced Open Water Diver and towards Master Scuba Diver.
